PolyMet hosts open house August 20
Range Readiness Initiative

PolyMet Mining Corporation is inviting the public to an open house from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m., Thursday, August 20, 2009, at the Hoyt Lakes Arena in Hoyt Lakes, Minnesota.

PolyMet Mining Corporation is a North American development company that plans to produce copper, nickel, cobalt, platinum, palladium, and gold at a mine and processing facility near Hoyt Lakes.

The project would create about 300 construction jobs during three years of construction; about 400 permanent jobs; an annual payroll of $40 million; about 500 spin-off jobs; $15 million annually in state and local revenue; $45 million per year in federal revenue; and a $242 million annual economic impact in St. Louis County.

Processing would occur at refurbished facilities at the former LTV Steel Mining Company taconite plant near Hoyt Lakes.

Detailed information about PolyMet’s mining and processing plans will be presented at the open house. Bus tours of the PolyMet processing site will be available free of charge.

PolyMet intends to invest approximately $600 million worth of capital into northeastern Minnesota.

PolyMet officials now predict the impact statement will be released to
the public during the third quarter 2009. Stuart Arkley, review
coordinator for the Minnesota DNR, said the agency is nearing the end
of the process
