China Buying US Oil & Gas Shale Fields

I received an email today from an individual who was venting about US companies selling stakes in our Oil & Gas Fields.  I have noticed China buying stakes in a lot of our oil & gas fields lately.  I think they are trying to adopt our technology and take it over there.  Below is the email.

" How much of the United States' natural resources/drilling rights does China and/or other countries own???  Besides, of course, the 25% of some mid western shale fields that a FEW people already know about??  Why are we led to believe that we could be energy independent if the drilling rights are being sold right out from under us??  Is it because they only let us know these things when it is TOO LATE??  Maybe ALL of our energy has not been sold yet, so this information is kept out of the news...until...uh oh!...it is too late?? "
