A Food and Drug Administration panel Tuesday overwhelmingly backed Krystexxa, a proposed treatment for a severe form of gout by Savient Pharmaceuticals Inc. (SVNT). The panel voted 14 to 1 in recommending approval of the product. The FDA usually follows the advice of its panels but is not required to. The agency is expected to make a decision by Aug. 1. FDA officials said they believed Krystexxa was effective at treating so-called treatment refractory gout, or patients with a severe form of gout that failed other treatments. It is possible...it looks like SVNT has already started running up about a month ago.
